Carolina Software EngineeringCustom software & embedded teams
Carolina Software Engineering · Charleston, SC · teams nationwide

Senior engineers who do the work themselves.

We build custom software with you — and when you need more than one person, we bring a team that works inside your tools, on your priorities. No handoffs. No account managers. The engineers on the first call are the ones shipping the product.

What we do

Services built around your needs

From an embedded engineering team to a production-ready product — Carolina Software Engineering shows up where generic software shops fall short.

Lockout/tagout

Lockout/tagout software

Industrial Safety IQ is our LOTO procedure software. Plant teams write energy control procedures, approve them, print tags and QR labels, and keep training and audits on schedule across every site.

Embedded development team

We become your engineering team: senior developers working in your repos, standups, and roadmap. Not a vendor you file tickets with — an extension of how you already operate.

Full-stack web, mobile, and backend systems shaped to your process. We build the right thing, the right way, and leave it in a state your team can maintain.

How we engage
Services

From MVP to production

Built fast with AI tools or contractors and now fragile? We audit what you have, stabilize it for real users, and get it to a state you can hand off or keep building.

Cross-platform product teams

React, React Native, GraphQL, and cloud — shared monorepos, design systems, and CI/CD so iOS, Android, and web stay one product, not three disconnected apps.

Integrations & data

Connect identity, payments, analytics, search, and the systems your business already runs. Contracts, pipelines, and observability that survive production.

Industrial analytics · Seeq

Seeq data analyst

We work inside Seeq as an embedded analyst for process plants — connecting historian data, building live calculations and capsules, and turning messy time-series into views operations can actually use. You keep Seeq; we supply the analyst who knows both the tool and the plant.

  • Connect and clean process time-series
  • Build Seeq workbooks, capsules, and scorecards
  • Train your engineers to keep the analyses running

How we work

Work that feels like a colleague, not a contractor

Every engagement starts with the senior engineers who will actually build it — and that relationship stays in place through delivery and beyond.

01

Discover

The first call is about thirty minutes and goes both directions. You describe the situation; we figure out whether we're the right fit. No pitch deck until we've talked. If we're not the call, we'll say so.

02

Build

You work directly with the people writing the code. Working software ships early, progress stays visible, and if the direction needs to change, it changes — without an account manager in the middle.

03

Deliver & grow

Go-live is not goodbye. The same engineers stay involved: monitoring, iterating, and fielding the questions that only show up in production. If your goal is to grow an internal team, we'll help you do that too.

Who you're working with

A senior partner, not a staffing agency.

When more capacity is needed, we bring seasoned engineers matched to your stack — always clear on who owns what. You'll know the team extending yours.

Founder & President

Jim Reynolds

When Jim takes on a client, the first conversation isn't about frameworks — it's about what you're trying to ship and where you're stuck. He specializes in turning a customer's vision into working product by integrating the right technologies, not the most fashionable ones.

His background spans senior full-stack and mobile leadership across learner platforms, benefits apps, municipal systems, and high-growth product orgs — React and React Native monorepos, shared UI libraries, GraphQL contracts, CI/CD for web and mobile, and cloud on AWS, GCP, and Azure. Earlier, as CEO of Motivation on Demand, he built and led a team of ten engineers delivering scalable media and e-commerce platforms.

He'd rather ask an uncomfortable question now than build the wrong thing later — and if your goal is eventually an in-house team, he'll help you get there.

What we're learning in the work

Direct notes from shipping production systems — including how AI changed the hours on Industrial Safety IQ, and what it still cannot replace.

What it actually took to ship Industrial Safety IQ with AI

Ten weeks, one engineer, about 480 hours. A traditional team would typically spend closer to 6,000 hours over five to seven months. We counted from git history, commit cadence, and a conservative staffing model — then said out loud what AI did and did not replace.
